Set in a beautiful, 16th-century, Grade II listed farm courtyard, the two-bedroom Atherstone Farm Cottage perfectly blends traditional, rural living with all of the luxurious comforts of a modern holiday home. Encompassing a charming thatched roof, stone floors, sturdy oak beams and a cosy log-burning stove set into a grand fireplace, there is nowhere finer to retire to following a day of exploring the Somerset countryside.
The cottage boasts two comfortable en-suite bedrooms, with deep mattresses, 400 thread count cotton bedding, indulgent mattress toppers and fluffy bathrobes, for full relaxation. The master bedroom is equipped with a king-sized bed and a roll-top bath plus walk-in shower in the spacious bathroom. The second bedroom can be arranged as a super-king or twin, with a walk-in modern wet room complete with heated stone tile floors.
The contemporary kitchen has a small dining area for lazy breakfasts and a handy, separate utility with laundry facilities and a large fridge-freezer (including ice machine!). Well equipped, the kitchen has an electric oven, hob and dishwasher for whipping up indulgent feasts of local fayre.
Adjacent to the kitchen, guests can find a spacious, stone-floored living/dining area with a wood-burning stove, 55” flat-screen TV and sumptuous sofas for snoozing. The focal point of this space however is the magnificent dining table that can easily seat 10-12, should you wish to entertain any extra guests. The Bluetooth sound bar is perfect for playing an ambient tune whilst dining, or for really getting knee deep in a great film!
Stepping outside, a good-sized, enclosed, garden with plenty of teak outdoor furniture for soaking up the summer sunshine, plus a charcoal BBQ for long afternoons spent sizzling steaks. There is also convenient, private parking for two cars.
Atherstone Farm Cottage can also be rented alongside the adjoining Atherstone Farmhouse that sleeps an additional ten guests. The cottage is found at one end of the farmhouse (which dates back to 1725) and the two are joined through lockable doors on the ground floor, for the convenience of any groups renting both.
Perfectly positioned for exploring the Somerset countryside, the cottage offers easy access to charming pubs, restaurants, and attractions—many within walking or cycling distance. The nearby hamlet of Atherstone boasts cosy inns like the Barrington Boar, Dinnington Docks, and the Lord Poulett Arms, while Ilminster provides convenient shopping. Cultural gems such as Barrington House and Dillington House are close by, along with the Dennis Chinaworks and its delightful tea rooms. Local cider producers, including Perry’s in Dowlish Wake and Julian Temperley’s distillery at Burrow Hill, offer authentic tastes of the region. For coastal adventures, the beach at Lyme Regis and the stunning Jurassic coastline are just a 40-minute drive away.
