The UK is such a diverse place, with so many different types of scenery to enjoy. Meadows full of wildflowers, towering mountains, wild moors, breathtaking coastline, ancient castles, and busy urban areas. It is no surprise that, when it comes to movie and tv filming locations, the UK boasts a wealth of credits. If you plan to travel to the UK this year, make sure to make the most of the opportunity, visiting some of these film-worthy spots. Whichever of these locations intrigues you, Together Travel is here for you, with luxury self-catering accommodations to make your stay memorable.
Introduction to Cornwall’s Filming Locations
Is it any wonder that Cornwall is a big draw for filmmakers? The scenery is absolutely stunning, with its picturesque countryside, and over 400 miles of coastline. Rugged cliffs tower over azure blue waters, and secret beaches, secluded coves, and hidden swimming spots abound, easy to find from the Southwest Coast path. There are charming villages, medieval fortresses, and historic houses to explore, and while it is known for its quaint fishing villages, Cornwall also features gorgeous subtropical gardens. Here are a few of the productions that have entrusted their creative vision to this breath-taking region.
- Poldark filmed at several locations in Cornwall. The harbour scenes in the first series were filmed at Charlestown, making Trewhiddle Village a convenient location for the film crew to stay. Poldark also made use of Levant and Botallack Mine, the astonishingly beautiful Kynance Cove, and the seas of Predannack Wollas on the Lizard Peninsula. The incredible beach scenes were filmed at Holywell Bay, down the road from Little Croft.
- Interior Design Masters filmed the beautiful Together Travel villas at Trewhiddle Village. During the nationwide lockdown of the COVID pandemic, when the villas were not able to be put to their intended use, the Interior Design Masters team put the property to good use, filming series two of the popular program. Sheltered in the heart of the woodland, in the midst of rolling fields, Trewhiddle Village is very near the charming harbours of Charlestown and Mevagissey, as well as beautiful, soft, sandy beaches.
- The ITV series, Playing Nice, was also filmed at various Cornwall filming locations. UK audiences will be sure to recognise these locations, as they are some of the most beautiful in Cornwall. Some scenes were filmed in Mevagissey, ten minutes from Trewhiddle Village. Other locations include Magwan Porth, Watergate Bay, and the National Trust area of Park Head, near Porthcothan Beach and Bedruthen Steps, all easily accessible from our gorgeous properties at Newquay. Additionally, some of the show was filmed at Penzance Jubilee Pool, near Together Travel’s charming cottage at Mousehole.
- Last but certainly not least, Doc Martin’s lovely village of Portwenn was actually the Cornwall village of Port Isaac. If you have ever dreamed of strolling through that picturesque location, it is just 30 minutes from our Fistral Beach property.

Scotland Has Undeniable Cinematic Appeal
Home to some of the most astonishingly beautiful landscapes in the UK, it is exactly what one might imagine when choosing epic filming locations. From the wild beauty of the Outer Hebrides to the lush farmland of the Lowland, to the Highlands magical glens surrounded by mountains, it is hard to pick the most amazing spot. Glittering lochs, golden beaches, Dark Sky Parks, and rambling moors all beg to be explored, which is why it is no surprise that Scotland is one of the top choices for television crews and filmmakers.
- If you are a fan of The Crown, you must visit Scotland. Some of this Netflix show was filmed at Keiss Harbour and Lybster, both near Together Travel’s John O’Groats property. Having watched the show, you may recognise Keiss Harbour as the spot where Lord Mountbatten goes fishing with his grandchildren. Lybster, on the other hand, got a makeover so that it could stand in for the Falklands in the 1980s. If you want to visit these spots, you will find no better place to stay than John O’Groats, where you will stay in a self-catering lodge or apartment, amidst wild, rugged beauty, on the breathtaking coastline. Time your trip just right, and you may even see the Northern Lights.
- The iconic Gaelic soap opera, Machair, was filmed on the Isle of Lewis and Harris. This television show was remarkable, in part, because of its untamed location, in the Outer Hebrides. Some of the most beautiful shots featured on the program were of Stornaway Harbour, and that is exactly where our Lews Castle property is located. Stay with us, in a self-catering apartment, within a gothic-revival style castle from the mid-19th century, and you will be treated to awe-inspiring views over the waters of Stornaway.
- If you have seen the Spirit of Rugby, presented by Famous Grouse, you will know that this iconic advert featured Stornaway RFC. The name should sound familiar because, yes, the rugby pitch on which it was filmed is very near to Lews Castle.

Visit Yorkshire Filming Locations in the UK
If you have never visited Yorkshire, you really should. One of the most diverse and lovely counties in the UK, Yorkshire has quaint towns and quirky cities, rugged stone walls and limestone paths, moorland and mountains, coastline and rolling hills. It has everything you could want in a holiday, from hiking to historic sites to cosy pubs to stately estates. Take in the spectacular coastline views, walk on a beach, visit a market town, or gape in wonder at one of Yorkshire’s amazing waterfalls. While you are at it, check out some of these filming locations.
- Do not miss the magic of Harry Potter film locations. The enchanting city of York holds a special place in the world of Harry Potter, with its winding medieval streets and historic landmarks evoking a sense of magic at every turn. The Shambles, said to have inspired Diagon Alley, captivates visitors with its crooked, timber-framed buildings and hidden boutiques, while York Train Station, featured in the films, offers another touch of wizarding history. Just a stone’s throw away from our holiday apartments, York City Crescent provides the perfect base for your magical escape—an elegant and contemporary retreat in the heart of the city. Alternatively, you can choose to stay at a charming traditional English cottage in Glaisdale, where history and luxury come together to create an unforgettable experience.
- Visit the world of All Creatures Great and Small. Beloved author and veterinarian James Herriot introduced the rest of the world to Yorkshire through his charming books. When his stories were put to film, they were filmed right here in Yorkshire. To get an up-close view of Herriot’s world, stay at one of our glass-front log cabins in Yorkshire Dales.
- See Capesthorne Hall, where a Coronation Street wedding was filmed. Other productions have been filmed here, as well, including The Problem at Thor Bridge and The Greek Interpreter. If you’ve a mind to do so, you can even get married in this stately hall. When you want to visit it, though, the best place to stay is our charming boltholes known as The Hoglets, in Lower Withington.
- Foyle’s War was filmed in Tattenhall. Do you want to know what else is exciting in Tattenhall? One of the most unique properties Together Travel has to offer. These Floating Pods, which feature modern amenities and waterside views, are located in Tattenhall Marina.

Are There Any Wales Filming Locations in the UK?
Wales is a small country, making up just a little over eight per cent of the UK’s total area, but it certainly packs a lot into a little location. Its diverse geography features everything from mountains to valleys to coastlines, and some of the scenery is absolutely stunning. If you have never been to Wales, you still might have seen some of this beauty, on the HBO series, House of the Dragon. This popular show chose the Llyn Peninsula to film some of its scenes, and we do not blame the filmmakers at all. In fact, we have chosen the gorgeous Llyn Peninsula for a unique collection of luxury accommodations, some located in converted barns, and some in a traditional Welsh farmhouse. We also have contemporary self-catering cottages and apartments, so you are sure to find your new favourite getaway.
