Does the dreary winter weather have you dreaming of getting away from it all? This year, how would you feel about a unique staycation right here in the UK? We have some suggestions for you of perfectly magical places to stay, closer to home than you might think.
The setting in itself is a draw. Just eight miles south of Chester, Tattenhall is a lovely village in the heart of the countryside. Here, you’ll find the “World’s Largest Ice-cream shop”, the Cheshire Ice Cream farm, or you can head further out to visit Chester Zoo and Cholmondeley Castle, with its elegant gardens. There’s plenty to explore within the city walls of Chester, where the charming streets yield access not only to independent shops and artisan cafes, but also a Roman amphitheatre. There are also gorgeous Roman gardens featuring a miniature railway and adventure playground. During the summer months, you can visit these gardens for open air cinema, live theatre, and concerts. If a river outing is more to your liking, head to the River Dee for a leisurely cruise or a day spent rowing yourself about and checking out the architecture on the riverbanks. You will also find an impressive suspension bridge you can cross to walk through the meadows or take in some live music on the riverbanks. After a day out and about, retreat to a floating pod at Tattenhall Marina. Floating on the marina, these glass fronted pods hold a contemporary double bedroom, living area with sofa bed, bathroom, and kitchenette, and they offer a beautiful view of Peckforton Castle. Some of our pods are even pet friendly!
UK glamping has never reached the heights of these bespoke holiday lodgings. Tucked away in the south Devonshire countryside, this holiday spot is close to the lovely village of Dittisham. Dittisham is on the River Dart, and you will find families relaxing along the banks, as children go crabbing on the old pontoon. You can hire a boat, kayak, or stand up paddleboard and spend an active afternoon in Dittisham, or catch the ferry to the historic town of Dartmouth, home of Dartmouth Castle. There’s also Greenway Quay, sitting next to the National Trust Greenway Estate, which renowned author Agatha Christie once called home. The Ferry Boat Inn in Dittisham is the perfect place to close out your day, enjoying a drink while you watch the boats coming in at sunset. Should you tire of Dittisham, you will never run out of things to do in the South Hams area, with its beaches, theme parks, castles, golf, sailing, cycling, and more. When the time comes to call it a night, head to your cedar-oak treehouse in its magical woodland setting for elegance you might not expect. Relaxing in the natural beauty that surrounds you, with a complimentary welcome hamper and all the comforts of home. The curved, open design of the treehouse allows for quality time together, and windows in all directions allow natural daylight to flood in while you revel in your elevated position, amongst the birds. There’s a smart television, board games, table football, a BBQ grill, and outdoor giant chess, or you can simply lounge in the hot tub or laze in the hammock. The two bathrooms feature power showers, essential toiletries and soft towels, and the sofa provides the perfect place to relax and watch the stars come out. This carefully designed property features a king sized bed and a triple bunk room, along with thoughtful touches like under-floor heating, a boot/dog wash, and electric vehicle charging points.
